LYC Foundation reaches out to YMCA youth

Yacht club volunteers help youngsters enjoy a day on Delaware Bay

Lewes Yacht Club held its Sailing Outreach Day Aug. 16, offering a day of on-the-water activities for Sussex County youth. Sponsored by the LYC Foundation, children from the Sussex Family YMCA Explorers program spent the day sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding on the Delaware Bay under the guidance of foundation and club volunteers.

“Most were experiencing these activities for the first time. They had a wonderful time, and we hope are excited enough to want to continue these activities,” said Foundation President Chip Beaverson.

The LYC Foundation provides funding for organizations offering youth programs for swimming and water safety, sailing, maritime activities and educational enrichment.

It directly supports the YMCA water safety program and has funded drown-proofing for more than 1,600 children over the last decade. For more information, go to LYCFoundation.com.
