Manufactured Housing Scholarships awarded to four students

The First State Manufactured Housing Association announced four recipients of the Manufactured Housing Scholarship Award for 2021-22. Each scholarship is in the amount of $2,500.

Isaac Brumbley, a 2020 graduate of Delmar High School and a rising sophomore at Virginia Tech, majors in civil engineering. He is interning this summer for Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, with plans to enter the construction industry as an engineer after graduation. Brumbley enjoys working out, hiking and playing recreational sports.

Alexis Buckley, a 2021 graduate of Indian River High School in Dagsboro, will attend Wilson College this fall, majoring in veterinary nursing. Buckley was part of the volleyball team for her high school and will continue playing at Wilson. She was an honors student and received academic achievement awards for all four years of high school. She was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and the FFA club throughout her years at Indian River. She has maintained a 4.3 GPA while working two jobs and participating in various extracurricular activities. Buckley resides in a manufactured home in Millsboro.

Kaylee Lewis, a 2021 graduate of Lake Forest High School, will attend the University of Delaware this fall and major in elementary education. Lewis was a varsity cheerleader and a member of the National Honor Society and BPA. She was in numerous dual-enrollment college-level courses and volunteered with a youth cheerleading program and at multiple elementary schools. Lewis resides in a manufactured home in Houston.

Vrunda Patel, a 2021 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, will attend the University of Michigan this fall to study political science and international studies. She was involved in the National Honor Society and Leo Club, and is an active member of her community through volunteering. Patel resides in a manufactured home in Lewes.

Since 1999, the First State Manufactured Housing Association has provided $69,000 in scholarship grants to 55 students. The program is available to high school seniors or graduates who reside in manufactured or modular housing within Delaware for at least one year prior to application.

Eligible candidates are evaluated on their scholastic record, financial need, written essay and recommendations from teachers or community leaders. The scholarship may be used for any type of accredited degree program, or any accredited technical training, licensing or certification program.

The First State Manufactured Housing Association is the professional trade association representing the interests of the manufactured and modular housing industry in Delaware.
