Margaret M. Bernoski, bred, raised bichons frises
Margaret M. Bernoski died peacefully in her home Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023. She was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Baltimore, Md., to Theresa (Hatter) DiSaia and Anthony DiSaia.
Marge fell in love with Gilbert J. Bernoski while he was in the Navy, and they married Jan. 31, 1953. They had two children, Karen Bernoski Aszman and Gilbert Bernoski Jr. Shortly after Gilbert’s birth, they moved to Wilmington, where Gil started working for Conoco and Marge eventually worked for Sears. Following her work at Sears, Marge worked as a teller at Bank of Delaware for many years, leaving Bank of Delaware as head teller. Following Gil’s career, the family moved to Louisiana and then Texas, where Marge started work for Western Geophysical until Gil was transferred back to Baltimore.
The couple then moved to Georgetown, where they would retire until they both decided they needed to keep themselves busy. Marge worked for a few years at Grotto Pizza as a hostess, then transitioned to work for the Park and Ride as an office manager. While working, she also ran a ceramics business, casting and painting pieces that she sold at craft fairs. Her true passion was raising and breeding her bichons frises. At one time she had four bichons, some of which were show dogs. Her last bichon was a rescue named Bennie, who was the love of her life after the passing of her husband.
Marge is survived by her children and their spouses, Karen and Mike Aszman, Gilbert and Yolanda Bernoski; and her grandchildren, Matthew Aszman and Jessica Norwood.
A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17, at Delaware Veteran Memorial Cemetery, where she will be buried with her husband, Gil. There will be no viewing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Marge’s memory to Brandywine Valley SPCA, 290 Churchman’s Road, New Castle, DE 19720, bvspca.org.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
