Margaret ‘Peggy’ M. McGinn, owned gift shop

Margaret “Peggy” M. McGinn, 84, of Ocean View passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, at her home.

She was born in Washington, D.C., Oct. 9, 1935, daughter of the late Walter W. Girton and the late Dorothy (Travis) Girton.  Peggy was a graduate of the Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Md.

She owned a successful hair salon in Silver Spring with her sister Trudy before retiring and moving to the beach in 1996.  Peggy purchased property on Route 26 in Millville and opened a gift and home store called Something Different, which she ran until her husband became ill.  

Peggy loved the beach, gardening, exercising, listening to music and watching her grandsons play sports.  She also enjoyed spending time with her sisters and their respective families.  Peggy enjoyed spending time at the Ocean View CHEER Center participating in chair yoga, and the Sea Colony water aerobics.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. McGinn; a son, Michael J. McGinn; and a brother, Bobby Girton.  She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Barnes and her husband Jim; three grandchildren, Michael Barnes, Carson Barnes and Sarah Wehner; two great-granddaughters, Heidi and Greta Wehner; and her three sisters, Pat Zook, Trudy Fox and Diane Girton.  

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church, 81 Central Ave., Ocean View, where friends and family may call after 10 a.m.  Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Peggy’s name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford DE 19963.
