Martha Marie White, compassionate caregiver
Martha Marie White, 71, daughter of the late Hurley and Annie Mae Waples, was born Jan. 13, 1948, in Rehoboth. She departed this life Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.
She attended elementary school in Rehoboth and William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Augustus Waples and sister Irene Morris. Her last employment was doing private-duty home healthcare. She truly enjoyed caring for others and since her personality was one of compassion, she was very good at it. Because of her professional work ethic, her clients' family wanted her to stay extra time to care for their loved ones. She made her clients know that she cared dearly for them.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to William White in 1982. They were married for 37 years but together for 47 years. From that union, they were blessed with one daughter, LaKisha, who gave them one granddaughter, Sanaa, who resided with them. Martha was a member of New Zion A.M.E. Church until her illness affected her particpation. While there, she served as missionary president, steward of the church, and sang on both the senior and mass choirs. She was often called on to read the scripture in worship service, and she read it - so much so, that everyone could feel the power and anointing of the Lord, which elevated the worship experience. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 4.
She was very comical and people enjoyed being around her; but she was serious about the Lord and her salvation. She would let everyone know that her birthday was January 13, all during the year, starting January 13.
Martha leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories, her husband William (Bunny); one daughter, LaKisha; one stepson, Vernon Keith Miller of Pennsylvania; one grandson, Don'Shay Wheeler of Lewes; two granddaughters, Sanaa and Keanhyzia Miller of Pennsylvania; one brother, Hurley (Estelle) Waples Jr. of Rehoboth; two sisters, Ada (Martin) Burton of Rehoboth and Emma (Thomas) Harmon of Lewes; three sisters-in law, EIizabeth Waples, Rev. Charlotte White and Joyce Gibbs; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and many, many friends.
Psalm 4:8 "I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep; for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety."
