Maryland Phoebe Davis, enjoyed cooking, baking
Maryland Phoebe Davis, 80, of Millsboro transitioned this life Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020, at her home.
Maryland was born in Millsboro June 30, 1939, to the late William Wesley Davis and Phoebe (Thompson) Davis. She was also preceded in death by her companion of 37 years, Charles Henry.
Maryland received her education at the Millsboro #204 School and William C Jason High School. She was employed at Townsend Poultry Plant in Millsboro for over 30 years until she was released for medical reasons.
Aunt Meryl, as she was affectionately called by everyone in the community, was like the BIG MAMA of the neighborhood. She made every Sunday feel like Thanksgiving or a family reunion. Cooking and baking were her passion. She also enjoyed listening to music, watching Westerns, soap operas and cartoons. Maryland spent quality time with her nieces and nephews. She taught some of the girls how to cook and shared stories of the family history. She never had biological children but she helped raise her only sister Joan’s three children, Sandra Davis, Jane Davis and Toney Floyd, all from Millsboro. She cared for them as if they were her own. Maryland and Joan were inseparable. They spent lots of time together, shopping and enjoying each other’s company.
Left to cherish her memories are three brothers and one sister: William Davis Jr., Stanley Davis of Millsboro, Preston Davis of Seaford and Joan Davis of Millsboro.
She loved her family and will be truly missed by her nieces, nephews, cousins and neighborhood friends.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. for viewing and visitation. Interment will follow at Harmony Cemetery in Millsboro.
