Melendez receives 2012 Bisbee award in Lewes

April 18, 2012

City of Lewes employee Rick Melendez is recipient of the 2011 Elaine Bisbee Service Award. Lewes Mayor Jim Ford presented the award to Melendez at Mayor and City Council’s March 12 meeting.

Melendez, 45, is the city’s assistant street foreman. A city employee for a decade, Melendez credits his coworkers with making it possible for him to do his job.

Along with recognition for a job well done, Melendez received a $ 500 bonus and letter of commendation from Mayor Ford.

The service award is named in honor of longtime Lewes City Manager Elaine Bisbee, known for her dedication and commitment to the city.
Mayor and City Council established the award when Bisbee retired in 2006 and named her its first recipient.

It is bestowed upon city workers who display dedication, dependability, reliability and excellent work habits, and who are team-oriented and committed to providing quality service – work ethics and traits Bisbee personified. Fellow city employees nominate candidates. Mayor and City Council select the winner annually in March.

Shown with Melendez, holding award, are family members (l-r) Maria Ortiz, sister; Naomi Ortiz, niece; Joshua Melendez, son; Leticia Melendez, wife; Zeli Melendez Montez, daughter; Eric Melendez Montez, grandson; Rosa Santiago, sister; and Harry Santiago, brother-in-law.
