Two men face charges after Lewes police say they were involved in illegal drug sales in Lewes June 25.
Lewes police with assistance from the Drug Enforcement Administration Southern Delaware Task Force conducted surveillance on Gregory Lawson-Hixon, 35, at a residence in the unincorporated area of Rehoboth Beach, because he was known to be active in illegal drug sales in the City of Lewes, police said.
During the surveillance, police said, they saw Lawson-Hixon with a large quantity of drugs enter a vehicle driven by another subject. Police found Lawson-Hixon with one pound of marijuana, 106 amphetamine pills, 140 oxycodone pills, 100 Xanax pills, 7.5 grams of a mixture of heroin and fentanyl, a digital scale for weighing drugs, and $4,700 in cash.
Lawson-Hixson was charged with 16 drug felonies. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $70,000 cash bail.
A passenger in the vehicle, Rashad E. Smith, was found in possession of a Taurus 22-caliber handgun, and charged with felony of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He was released without bail.
