Micha Seto of Blooming Boutique judges university fashion show

May 23, 2019

Micha Seto, Blooming Boutique owner and a University of Delaware alumna, served as a guest judge at the University of Delaware’s Synergy Fashion Show held May 4.

Fashion Department students plan the event each year to showcase student designs. With more than 500 attendees, the fashion show is quite a large production.

This year, students submitted designs in four categories including What Empowers You, Zero Waste, WGSN: Common Ground (fashion trend predictor), and Senior Collections.

With the empowerment category, students were to create ensembles that exemplify what empowerment means to them. The Zero Waste category challenged students to make designs that generated little to no waste, as normally 15-20 percent of fabric used to produce clothing ends up in a landfill. For the third category, students were asked to read the WGSN: Common Ground reports for men’s, women’s and youth fashions, and generate designs that celebrate the differences between communities. The senior students were challenged to create a capstone collection containing 3-5 looks around a central theme.

Each designer was evaluated on Craftsmanship, Aesthetics, Originality and Use of Theme on a 10 point scale. Three looks were brought to the stage at one time, allowing the judges a few minutes to ask questions and learn more about the designs including questions about inspiration, fabric, and garment design.

Wing Tang took best in show with her gorgeous Escargot-inspired designs in the Zero Waste Category. Seto greatly enjoyed her time back at her alma mater and looks forward to continued involvement with the University of Delaware Fashion Department.
