The Milford Community Band kicked off its 30th anniversary year of 2020 with a successful fundraising campaign.
With donations from many community supporters and businesses, and funds from the Challenge Grant Initiative sponsored by the Delaware Division of the Arts, the band raised $26,000. Band members are extremely grateful for the generosity of all of its supporters.
Funds raised will be used in part to increase outreach to student musicians in southern Delaware, improving their musicianship, musical performances and appreciation of all things music. The funds will also be used to expand the band’s musical range to a wider audience through marketing, promotion, scheduling and performances.
Monies raised also will enable the band to provide at least $3,000 to fund scholarships for Milford School District students to receive additional music lessons with private teachers. It has funded more than 184 summer music scholarships over the past 17 years for district students. Scholarships are awarded based on essays written by applicants that display their desire for extra music lessons. The program is facilitated by Todd Mentzer of the Milford School District.
To donate, mail a check payable to Milford Community Band, 1234 Killens Pond Road, Harrington, DE 19952. Milford Community Band is a nonfprofit organization, and the EIN is 20-3660855.
