The Milton Fire Department held its annual fire prevention award ceremony and banquet Jan. 25. Students from H.O. Brittingham Elementary, Milton Elementary, Mariner Middle School and Delmarva Christian received awards in the State of Delaware School Essay and Poster Contest. A major benefit of the program is the research done by all of the students on fire prevention and fire safety. The fire service feel that each child that participates in the program will become more knowledgeable about fire prevention and fire safety through their research efforts. Some of the winners of the contest will advance to the county contest, and possibly the state contest. Students in kindergarten through grade three made fire prevention posters and students in fourth through eighth wrote fire prevention essays.
