Milton majors fall to MOT in state tournament

The Milton Major League All-Stars were on the wrong end of a walk-off July 27, as Middletown, Odessa, Townsend scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to earn the win in the state tournament in Newark. 

Milton opened the game’s scoring in the third inning, then added three runs in the top of the fifth inning to build a 4-0 lead. 

MOT responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, then two in the sixth to earn the win. 

Milton’s Joe Ruark and Nate Kristunas each collected two hits in the game. Ike Beam was 1-for-1 with an RBI, run scored and was hit by a pitch. Also tallying RBIs were Trey Dickinson, Jordan Williams and Jude Bastian.

Milton outhit MOT 9-7. 

Milton used four pitchers in the game. None gave up an earned run. Tynan Smith got the start, tossing three innings, allowing three hits, no walks and striking out one. 

Dickinson threw 1.2 innings, allowing two hits, two unearned runs, a walk, while striking out one. 

Trig Joseph and Ruark each pitched 0.1 innings in relief. 

Milton is slated to be back in action Friday, July 29, when they will face the loser of MOT and the District 2 representative.
