Moped rider charged after threatening car with pocketknife
A Rehoboth Beach man faces charges June 1 after police say he threatened a driver on Route 1 with a pocketknife.
Police said Tyler Draine, 27, was riding a moped at 5:41 p.m. on Route 1 when he stopped in front of a car at a red light near Wescoats Road. Police said Draine approached the car with a pocketknife and threatened to harm the two occupants. The occupants called 911 and Draine got back on his moped and drove southbound on Route 1. A short time later, police said a trooper saw him driving southbound near Airport Road and pulled the moped over to speak with him, but Draine took off across Route 1, crossing traffic. After a brief foot pursuit, police said, Draine was arrested. Police found a pocketknife on him.
Draine was taken to Troop 7 where he was charged with two counts of aggravated menacing, two counts of terroristic threatening, two counts of disorderly conduct, carrying a concealed dangerous instrument, resisting arrest and other charges.
He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released on a $6,202 unsecured bond.
