Motorcoach service connects Wilmington and Philly airports

American Airlines Landline Connection serves Delaware regional passengers
September 1, 2024

American Airlines, in partnership with The Landline Company, is launching its new service connecting passengers from the Wilmington Airport to Philadelphia International Airport via luxury motorcoaches.

Effective Oct. 7, the premium motorcoach connection will allow passengers to combine the convenience of not having to drive themselves to the Philadelphia airport with the benefits of a flight on American Airlines’ global network. Passengers will park at Wilmington Airport, check their luggage to their final destination and clear TSA security locally at ILG prior to boarding the motorcoach to PHL. During the nonstop journey to Philadelphia, passengers will enjoy top-tier amenities before arriving post security at PHL, Terminal F. The schedule is timed to connect to key American Airlines flights with six daily roundtrip operations.

Travelers flying into Philadelphia and connecting to Wilmington will be able to board the motorcoach airside without leaving the secure area. Any checked luggage will be transferred automatically to the motorcoach, and passengers will pick up their bags upon arrival at Wilmington Airport.

“The American Airlines/Landline service allows passengers to travel with peace of mind, knowing their connections are protected with American Airlines. Riding with Landline eliminates the hassle of trying to find a ride or driving and parking at PHL,” said Hannah Tamura, Landline spokesperson. “The ability to clear TSA security at ILG instead of waiting in unpredictable security lines at PHL is an added benefit.”

“We’re thrilled that the American Airlines-Landline connection service has been added to the menu of customer offerings at ILG,” said Thomas J. Cook, executive director of the Delaware River & Bay Authority.  “At Wilmington Airport - ILG, we pride ourselves in offering a fast, affordable, smooth and convenient hometown airport experience for our customers. For those who are looking for quality service without the big-city airport hassles associated with parking, check-in or security screening, I’d encourage you to give the new American Airlines service at ILG a try.”

Each Landline motorcoach is handicap accessible and equipped with 35 premium leather seats in a 2x1 configuration offering extended legroom, free Wi-Fi, in-seat power outlets and an onboard lavatory. Travelers will also receive itinerary protection and earn AAdvantage miles while riding with American.

Here are the highlights:

  • American Airlines is launching a new tarmac-to-tarmac luxury motorcoach service to its hub in Philadelphia
  • The new service allows passengers to clear security at Wilmington Airport, board a luxury motorcoach at Wilmington’s departure gates, and arrive at a secure gate at Philadelphia’s Terminal F. Customers will then disembark at the gate and proceed to their next gate to continue their connecting flight
  • The luxury motorcoaches feature 35 premium leather seats in a two-by-one seating configuration and offer 36 inches of seat pitch, comparable to the premium cabin on a regional jet. Passengers also enjoy free Wi-Fi and in-seat power outlets at every seat
  • Customers can earn and redeem AAdvantage miles using these new connecting Landline “flights”
  • Bags are handled as with any flight: Passengers check their luggage in with American Airlines agents on arrival at Wilmington Airport, and the airport’s baggage-handling system takes over from there. Check-in also works like any other American Airlines flight
  • American is launching the service with six roundtrips per day, timed to connect with American flights out of Philadelphia
  • To use the service, customers will book their flight through American Airlines’ website or mobile app, entering Wilmington Airport as origin and selecting the destination as the endpoint, just like a flight itinerary.

Customers looking to book the seamless connection to and from PHL can book the motorcoach at the same time they book their flight on aa.com by searching Wilmington (ILG) to their initial or final destination.
