Motorists were surprised June 18 by a line of blue paint after someone spilled a large quantity of it on about a half-mile of road in Lewes.

Following the trail, it’s on Savannah Road along Villages of Five Points, across Route 1 to Route 9, ending at Ward Avenue in Belltown. It also splashed on several cars. The paint line also goes through the Surf Bagel parking lot along Route 1 onto the new southbound turn lane leading to the roundabout. The blue paint also was spilled on a section of Plantation Road from the roundabout to past Robinsonville Road.

Delaware Department of Transportation spokesman Charles McLeod said the incident happened around 7 a.m.

“Depending on the type of paint, it might be impossible to remove. We are going to look at it today and see what we can do,” he said.

In the meantime, DelDOT and Delaware State Police are asking for the public’s help to identify the culprit via a post on DelDOT’s Facebook page
