Nancy Lee Reed, loved horses

Nancy Lee Reed (nee Warrington), 80, of Milton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, with her daughter at her bedside, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. She was born April 7, 1943, in Lewes, to the late Alton and Lillian (nee Wilson) Warrington, and was the widow of the late R. Allan Reed of Milton. 

Nancy spent her childhood on her parents’ farm in the Angola area of Delaware, where her lifelong love for horses bloomed. She graduated from Lewes High School in 1961 and then went on to graduate from Goldey-Beacom in Wilmington. Following her graduation from Goldey-Beacom, she married the love of her life, R. Allan Reed, in November 1962, at Goshen United Methodist Church in Milton.

During their marriage, Nancy and Allan together enjoyed horses, dancing, spending summers at Broadkill Beach, snow and water skiing, boating, traveling, and being with their family and friends.  

Nancy worked at Reed Trucking Company in Milton for over 30 years. She started as a secretary and later became part of the management team years after the death of her husband, R. Allan Reed, in 1987.

In 1995, Nancy married Francis (Fran) Jackson. Together, they spent their time laughing at Fran’s jokes, enjoying the company of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, vacationing on cruises, and playing the penny slots at Harrington Raceway & Casino.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, Christine A. Reed; four grandchildren, Chelsea White (nee Reed), Tyler Reed, Connor Haxton and Victoria Haxton; four great-grandchildren; and her husband, Fran Jackson.   

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, R. Allan Reed; and her beloved son, George A. Reed. 

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 416 Federal St., Milton, where a time of visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.
