Nanticoke Indian Tribe celebrates heritage at powwow

September 14, 2012

The Nanticoke Indian Tribe held its 35th Annual Powwow Sept. 8-9 near Oak Orchard. The annual event brings together tribes from throughout the nation to share their heritage and culture and to preserve traditions, to sing to the Creator and dance to the heartbeat of the drum.

Shown leading the gathered tribes in the Grand Procession is Terry “Dream Wanderer” Sammons, left, carrying the Nanticoke Eagle Staff and John Norwood carrying the Nanticoke-Lenape Eagle Staff.
