Milton Arts Guild will offer Negative Painting Watercolor, a unique class that teaches students to use negative space to define shapes and objects within their watercolor paintings, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesday, May 11.
Negative painting allows artists to sculpt out forms and shapes by painting around them, rather than painting the shapes themselves. Using layers of transparent color then allows artists to create depth in their paintings.
Instructor Isabel Pizzolato will walk students through the process while showing several examples and demonstrating the technique.
No prior experience is necessary for this class, but students with some watercolor background will also learn new skills. A traceable image will be supplied prior to the class.
After many years in the decorative art world, Pizzolato began focusing on watercolor several years ago. She has been recognized with numerous awards, and her work hangs in private collections. She is a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the Delaware Watercolor Society.
The class costs $70. To register and to obtain the materials list, go to miltonartsguild.org.
