New Covenant Presbyterian Church’s beach services are back

July 17, 2024

New Covenant Presbyterian Church hosted its first beach service of the summer season July 7 off Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach.

New Covenant is a Presbyterian church located at 3072 Savannah East Drive, Lewes. The church comprises members of the coastal Sussex region that bond together through God’s providence and as local believers. Churchgoers should expect to experience forgiveness, love, hope, encouragement and instruction in regarding what man is to believe concerning God and what duty God requires of man.

Pastor Robert Dekker is excited to get the beach services up and running. “The world comes to Rehoboth,” said Dekker. “We want to share the gospel with the world.”

The idea for a beach service started in 2013 with a Fourth of July celebration. More than 15,000 people attended, and the event received a lot of attention from the local community.

Shawn Rineholt came on board with New Covenant Presbyterian Church eight years ago. He has done a lot of work with the missionary agency A Jesus Mission in the Dominican Republic; he really enjoys beach services and sees their benefit. Dekker and Rineholt working together has led to regularly scheduled beach services in the months of July and August.

“It is awesome to put up a cross that anybody walking by can see,” said Dekker.

A beach service will take place on the sand off Rehoboth Avenue every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. until Sept. 1. The service will include prayer, worship, music and a sermon; anyone is welcome to attend.
