Dewey finance committee to meet 

The Dewey Beach Finance Committee will meet at 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, at the Dewey Lifesaving Station.

The committee will review the town’s current Investment Policy Implementation Plan and the annual budget development process, and possibly vote to recommend changes to council. It will also discuss and possibly vote to recommend to council the transfer of Brown Advisory operating funds.

Dewey climate change panel to meet

The Dewey Beach Climate Change Committee will meet at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 15, at the Dewey Lifesaving Station.

The committee will elect a new secretary and discuss Sally Silver’s status as liaison with the marketing committee.

Committee members will discuss recommendations from the resiliency subcommittee regarding the establishment of a town resiliency fund. They will also discuss the Delaware Resilient and Sustainable Communities League’s March 5 meeting and will discuss and possibly vote on suggestions on local businesses’ approach to addressing climate change.

Friends of Cape plan annual flea market 

The Friends of Cape Henlopen State Park will hold its annual flea market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 15,  at the Officers Club in the park. This is a rain-or-shine event. Park entry fees are in effect. 

A variety of gently used treasures, unique finds and household items will be offered at bargain prices, with proceeds going to support the Friends’ educational programs for schoolchildren.

Friends merchandise will also be available, including some clearance items. Friends members receive a 10% discount on all merchandise. Credit and debit cards are accepted for purchases over $10.

Donations for the event offer a great opportunity for decluttering one’s home of unwanted gifts and items no longer in use. 

Clean, usable donations may be dropped off at the Officers Club from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, March 14.

Meeting set March 16 on Belle Meade

A public meeting will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, March 16, in the Angola by the Bay clubhouse, 33457 Woodland Circle, to discuss the proposed Belle Meade project on Route 24 next to Beacon Middle School. The meeting is being held in advance of a public hearing before Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission set for 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 19, and a public hearing before Sussex County Council scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 20. Belle Meade is a proposed C-4 master plan project with mixed-use development on 40 acres along Route 24, including 480 multifamily rental units and 125,000 square feet of commercial development. The property is currently an equestrian facility.

Delaware FC spring rec league begins April 5

Delaware FC will host a six-week spring recreational program for boys and girls aged 3 through 7 beginning Saturday, April 5. Sessions are run by Delaware FC professional staff coaches with assistance of volunteer parents. Age groups include Discovery U4 TinyMites (2021 birth year), Discovery U5 MiniMites (2020 birth year), Discovery U6 DynaMites (2019 birth year) and U8 (2018 and 2017 birth years). Sessions will primarily be in the morning, but there may be some afternoon times. Registration cost is $90 for TinyMites, $100 for MiniMites and DynaMites, and $110 for U8.
