Welches Pond granted an appeal

Welches Pond, subdivision with 247 single-family home lots on 256 acres along Cedar Grove Road, was granted an appeal from Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission June 25 for a renewed timeline to have the community’s pool finished and open to residents. Commissioners changed the community’s pool completion from before or at the issuance of the 130th building permit to the 148th permit or Dec. 31, whichever occurs first. That number, representing 60% of the permits, has become a standard for the county.

The original plan, which was denied by Sussex County Council, was for an RV resort.

An application for a subdivision was filed in early 2018 by local developer and landowner J.G. Townsend Jr. & Co. Home construction is well underway with 150 lots sold.

The project has had two other names – The Grove at Love Creek and Fieldstone.
