Waves looks at expansion

Lewes Waves Car Wash has plans to expand with a location close to Rehoboth Beach, but the parcel at the intersection of Route 24 and Warrington Road must first be rezoned.

Cherner Development Group has filed a rezoning application to change the 1.58-acre parcel from AR-1, agricultural-residential, to C-3, heavy commercial.

During Sussex County Planning & Zoning’s Aug. 7 meeting, attorney Tom Carney said the parcel is located in a commercial area on the county’s future land-use map, and the proposed use of the property is consistent with uses permitted in the zoning district.

Waves also has a location in Milford.

The commission deferred a vote to a future meeting. Sussex County Council has scheduled a public hearing on the application at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17.

If the rezoning is approved, the applicant must submit a preliminary site plan for review by the commission.
