Nikki Miller named new principal of Cape High

Nikki Miller has been hired as principal of Cape High.

The former Cape High assistant principal will take over for Brian Donahue who is retiring at the end of the 2016-17 school year.

Cape Henlopen school board voted unanimously to hire Miller following an executive session April 12. Board member Jen Burton said Miller brings a lot to the table as new principal.

Burton said it was a competitive process with other qualified candidates. “It was a very, very, very tough decision,” she said.

Superintendent Robert Fulton agreed that Miller was chosen out of a talented group of applicants.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Nikki on our team, and we are excited that she has been named as the Principal of Cape Henlopen High School,” he said.

School board Vice President Alison Myers said Miller is a great fit for the job. "Mrs. Miller has built strong relationships with staff and students at the high school, and I am confident we will see continued and expanded successes there with her as principal," she said.

She will begin her position as principal on July 1.

Miller was hired assistant principal in 2014 and she was instrumental in implementing Cape High’s iPad program, which gives every student an iPad at the beginning of the school year.

The 2000 Lake Forest grad went to York College for education and ended up earning her secondary social studies education degree at Delaware State University. She began teaching at Seaford Middle School where she worked for seven years as a social studies teacher.

She continued her education at Wilmington University earning an administrative degree there before becoming an instruction coach at Seaford.

A short time later, she moved into an assistant principal position for both the middle school and high school in Seaford. Bringing the International Baccalaureate program to Seaford was big accomplishment for  her, she said.
