Paul Kares Rock ‘n’ Roll Run slated June 15
The inaugural Paul Kares Rock ‘n’ Roll Run will step off at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 15, at Hudson Fields near Milton.
Proceeds will help fund a children’s singer-songwriting and cooking workshop series beginning in August.
“It’s challenging to pursue a career in the arts, and so often, young people get discouraged,” said Jim Rivette, the nonprofit’s president. “We want to make it easier for them to realize their dreams.”
Rivette and musician/chef Paul Cullen co-founded Paul Kares, which has awarded grants for band travel expenses, music camp tuition, culinary trip expenses, music school programs, college scholarships and college hospitality programs.
Rivette noted the recent announcements that the Delaware College of Art & Design in Wilmington and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia were closing.
“A world without the arts and beautifully prepared food is hard to imagine,” he said. “We want to ensure that won’t happen.”
Organizers designed the 5K Rock ‘n’ Roll Run as a fun event. There will be live music, and participants are invited to wear their rock band or artist T-shirt for the race.
Registration includes a souvenir beach towel and two cold beers for adults 21 and up. All registrants will receive water and fruit.
“We’ll present awards for the best T-shirt and to the race winners,” said Michael Whitehouse, Paul Kares race organizer. “The event is the second leg of the Seashore Striders Triple Crown weekend. Paul Kares is proud to be part of this summer tradition.”
Registration is $30 in advance and $35 on event day. To register, go to seashorestriders.com/race-schedule.
