Pennsylvania woman dies in fatal crash near Milton
An 18-year-old Pennsylvania woman died in the early morning hours of June 21 after being struck by a car near Milton.
Delaware State Police say the woman, from Linwood, Pa., was a passenger in a Dodge Charger that was stopped on the shoulder of the northbound lane of Route 1 near Oyster Rocks Road. Shayla Montgomery had exited the car and was looking for her cellphone when she stepped into the roadway, right in the path of a Nissan Altima that was driving on the right side of the northbound lane. The Nissan hit Montgomery, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan, a 34-year-old Dover woman, was not injured. The roadway was closed for four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident and asks anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Senior Cpl. Smith at 302-703-3267.
