Police arrest Milton pair for guns, drugs

April 26, 2024

Delaware State Police have arrested a Milton man and woman on felony gun and drug charges after police searched their home on Reynolds Pond Road.

Police say upon executing a search warrant, Randolph Gooner, 52, and Carey Rust, 47, were found to have a cache of weapons, including 14 shotguns, six rifles and four handguns. In addition, police also found methamphetamine, cocaine, psychedelic mushrooms and pills which Gooner did not have a prescription for, including oxycodone.

Police said on the morning of April 12, detectives suspected that Gooner was distributing narcotics. When police arrived at the house, they found Gooner in the driver’s seat of a Chevy Silverado. Police say Gooner did not obey verbal commands to get out of the car and physically resisted attempts to get him out of the car. After a brief struggle, Gooner was arrested, and police found a loaded gun and two oxycodone pills on his person.

After searching the home, police say they found a Toyota Tacoma on the property that belonged to Rust. Police say they found amphetamine pills in the car, which led to Rust’s arrest.

Gooner was charged with 18 counts of felony gun possession, nine counts of possessing guns and drugs, and multiple felony drug charges. He was incarcerated at Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown in lieu of $450,000 cash bond.

Rust was charged with second-degree conspiracy and drug charges, and was released on $2,000 unsecured bond.
