Police: Ellendale man stabs child

An Ellendale man faces an attempted murder charge after police say he stabbed a 12-year-old while the victim slept July 25.

Police responded at 10:51 a.m. to Bayhealth Sussex Campus where they learned the child was brought to the hospital by a family member after the child was stabbed while sleeping at a home in the 18000 block of Sharon’s Road in Ellendale.

Police said Darris McGlotten, 40, stabbed the child, and they also learned his mother, Jamesneta McGlotten, 54, was aware the child had been seriously injured, but did not seek medical or police assistance for the child.

Darris McGlotten was arrested and taken to Troop 4 where he was charged with first-degree attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $420,000 cash bond.

Jamesneta McGlotten was arrested and taken to Troop 4 where she was charged with felony endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and released on her own recognizance.
