Producers of NYC hit look to Delaware for talent Aug. 18

Alive! 55+ and Kickin’ Creators host talent search at The Schwartz Center
August 13, 2016

ALIVE! 55+ and Kickin' is a live show about healing, and the transformative power of story and song and features a unique blend of gospel, jazz, R&B and pop music. The cast is composed of everyday people ages 55 and over, from all walks of life representing hardworking folks, from a stay-at-home mother to an ordained minister. As a result of its success, the show has been the subject of a feature on the popular CBS show “60 Minutes.”

Vy Higginsen and Ken Wydro, producers of the hit, will continue their search for moving stories and song when they hold the first Talent Search in the Mid-Atlantic region Thursday, Aug. 18, at The Schwartz Center for the Arts in Dover. Higginsen is an award-winning author, publisher, playwright, and media personality. Wydro is a published author, producer, playwright and seasoned professional speaker.

For the Talent Search event the producers are requesting performances of one gospel, hymn or spiritual song, which can be performed by a solo, duo, trio or quartet. Also with the song, the performer(s) should be prepared to share a one- to two-minute story of how a personal challenge was overcome. Of course, performers need to be age 55 or older. There is no cost to enter, but those who enter will need to register no later than Tuesday, Aug. 16 by 4 p.m., by calling the Schwartz Center Box Office at 302-678-5152 or emailing barbara@schwartzcenter.com.

Winners will be invited to perform on the day of the show, Sept. 24.

Additional performances added

The show ALIVE! 55+ and Kickin' has been so well received that the first show has almost sold out. Fortunately, a second show has been added to meet the demand for tickets, many of which are driven by sales to groups in the Philadelphia, D.C. and Baltimore markets. "We are thrilled we need to add a second performance for residents and groups from throughout Delaware who may not have had a chance to know about the show before it was sold out." says Sydney Arzt, executive director of The Schwartz Center.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. show may be purchased at www.schwartzcenter.com or in person at the Schwartz Center Box Office Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For group pricing or to register for the Talent Search, contact The Schwartz Center for the Arts Box Office at 302-678-5152. The Box Office is open Tuesday through Friday. Registration can also be made by sending an email to barbara@schwartzcenter.com.

Currently, programming for Schwartz’s 550-seat theater focuses on live music, theatrical performances, dance, film and comedy.

In addition to the theater, several meeting spaces are available for public and private events.
