I just wanted to comment on this article titled “Public Service Commission approves Artesian rate increase” that was published in the June 14 issue. I am so glad that the Public Service Commission looks out for the public – that was sarcasm. I retired and moved into Sussex County a year-and-a-half ago. After two months of water invoices from Artesian Water, I called customer service telling them that there must be a mistake, that I was being charged $85 per month for sewer charges. The representative's explanation was that everyone pays this fee. No, they don't. After further investigation on this fee, I was finally told that the Public Service Commission approved this fee for all new homes in Sussex County that had water service through Artesian Water in 2006. You would think by now, 18 years, at $85 per month per new house, they would have covered the new sewer lines that they were installing, and then some. I don't know about anyone else, but I would think that it is time to lower this charge.
