RAL ART-Ventures trip to Brandywine museum set Nov. 14

Reservation deadline Nov. 1
October 25, 2013

The celebration of the Rehoboth Art League's 75th anniversary continues with the addition of ART-Ventures, a series of trips to visit museums and shows of interest to members. Based on the famous Travelers Club the art league had in the 1970s, this new group will provide an expanded opportunity to explore the art in the surrounding area. The first trip of this fall and spring series is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14, and will visit the Brandywine River Museum.

The Brandywine River Museum is internationally known for its unparalleled collection of works by three generations of Wyeths and its fine collection of American illustration, still life and landscape painting. The daylong trip includes a special tour of the N.C. Wyeth house and studio, the Andrew Wyeth studio and a tour by curator Amanda Burden of the current exhibition of works by Jamie Wyeth and Rockwell Kent painted on the Maine island of Monhegan.

A small island off the coast of Maine, Monhegan has long lured artists to its remote shores, dramatic ocean vistas, rugged landscapes and inspiring scenes of men struggling against the forces of nature. The current exhibition at the Brandywine River Museum examines the fascination the island held for American artists Rockwell Kent (1882-1971) and Jamie Wyeth (b. 1946).

The bus will leave from Kmart’s rear parking lot, 19563 Coastal Highway, promptly at 7:15 a.m. and return to the same site around 5 p.m. The $55 trip fee includes transportation to and from the Brandywine River Museum, tour of the Andrew Wyeth Studio, N.C Wyeth house and studio ,and curatorial tour with docents.

Reservations and payment are due by Friday, Nov. 1, and can be made online at rehobohtartleague.org/events or by sending a check made payable to Rehoboth Art League, Attn: Rose Murray, 12 Dodds Lane, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
