Raymond Edward Dorey, Suburban Propane retiree
Raymond Edward Dorey, 93, of Millsboro, passed quietly from his earthly home to his eternal home Friday, Oct. 13, 2023.
He was born Nov. 3, 1929, in Millsboro, to the late Raymond and Dorothy Moore Dorey. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two infant sisters.
Edward graduated from Millsboro High School Class of 1947, and worked with his father, who was a master mason. He married Louise Davis Sept. 19, 1949. The couple became poultry farmers with a small house capacity of 3,000 chicks. He took a job with Collins & Ryan Inc. as a serviceman. The company later became Suburban Propane. After 29 years, he retired as service manager.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Louise Dorey of Millsboro; one daughter, Lou Ann Rieley (John) of Millsboro; and one son, Todd Dorey of Millsboro. Edward was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Shaun (Leigh) of Hyattsville, Md., Michael (Lauren) of Millsboro, Mark of Millsboro, Katelyn (Ben) of Tampa, Fla., Megan (Stephen) of Millsboro, Kelly (Christopher) of Millsboro, Erin McCall (Cliff) of Milton, Thomas (Dani) of Helena, Mont., Chris (Samantha) of Laurel, James (Deanna) of Millsboro and Matthew (Lilly) of Millsboro; as well as 27 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, his Zoar Church family, countless friends, and a host of unrelated young people who called him Pop Pop Dorey.
A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, Oct. 21, at Watson Funeral Home & Crematorium, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where the viewing will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Interment will be private at Millsboro Cemetery.
