National Fire Prevention Week began Oct. 4 and runs through Saturday, Oct. 10. To kick things off, the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company hosted an open house and demonstration of residential fire sprinklers at the company’s Rehoboth Avenue home.
Representatives from Indian River Fire Company and Roxana Fire Company joined the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company for the event.
The New Jersey Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board was also on hand with one of its demonstration trailers to highlight the effectiveness, efficiency and safety of residential fire sprinklers.

Spare sprinkler heads are set to be used for demonstrations. Mike Wilson said these pump about 20 gallons per minute.
Among the people watching the demonstration on residential sprinklers are Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes, Rehoboth Beach Mayor Stan Mills, Speaker of the House Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, D-Rehoboth, Rehoboth Beach Commissioner Edward Chrzanowski and Rehoboth Beach Commissioner Patrick Gossett.
