Rehoboth Elementary Girls on the Run members capped off their fall season by hosting a toy donation to benefit children at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Coached by teachers Alyssa Wilson and Izzy Nicoletti, Girls on the Run is a self-empowering program for girls in grades three to five.
This year, Wilson said 18 students joined the program, which encourages a positive self-mindset and gives girls tools to use in uncomfortable situations, such as bullying, and in making good choices while adding an exercise component as well.
In addition to school locations, Sea Barre Fitness in Lewes also hosted a collection site, Wilson said.
Every fall and spring, Girls on the Run members choose a community project; last year, students collected items for animals, Wilson said. In spring, the girls will choose another project to benefit others.
