Lizzie & Ducklettes, a resale and consignment boutique in Lewes has grown, and it is no longer mostly items just for children.

Owners Liz ‘Lizzie’ and Don ‘Ducklettes’ Irwin have expanded their offerings since the store first opened last July.

Late last year, Liz bought handbags into the store to see if they appealed to customers.

“Women would look at them and kind of gravitate toward them,” she said. To go with the handbags, there’s also a new selection of women’s shoes.

As for clothing, the shop now offers junior's and women's sizes.

“Instead of being just children’s clothing, I have up to a 14, 16 and junior, I’m going up to size 24 in women’s clothing,” she said.

Liz also operates Creative Hair Designs in Milford, which she owns with Don. The couple operates Lizzie & Ducklettes on a part-time basis.

The shop continues to offer surgical scrubs, and Liz said she plans to have scrubs in sizes ranging from small to XXX-large.

“Everything that I bring in is washed, dried and ironed, folded or hung. It’s a lot of work,” she said.

The shop used to carry only children’s books, but now also has books for adults.

Mixed in the room with books are games and other items. “There’s not going to be any rhyme or reason in there. Some things are vintage and some are newer. But I’m not going to get into crock pots and coffeepots. You can go to a dollar store and buy those,” Liz said.

The shop has a small selection of VHS tapes, but what they have are the last ones they’ll carry. They’re also phasing out larger items such as strollers and big toys.

The East Coast Artist and Crafters Room is a new area in the shop.

“I have a couple artists. One does reverse tie-dye clothing and paints on glass, and the other paints on old windows and a variety of glass items,” she said.

Missy Pingue, a Milford artist, does the reverse tie-dye dresses. They sell for $25 or $30.

Sharon Thomas paints on glass. A set of wine glasses she painted sells for about $60. Paintings on canvas will also be offered. “I want things that are different. Things not everybody can do,” Liz said.

The shop’s consignment policy is somewhat lengthy, and Liz said it’s best for her to explain it in person.

“I have all the rules written down, because there are a lot of them. It has to be that way or I won’t take it on consignment,” she said.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

“For Tuesday and Wednesday, we’re saying ‘Open by chance,” she said.

Lizzie & Ducklettes is at 1145 Savannah Road, Lewes. Phone the store at 302-827-2166.
