The Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs informed the Richard Allen Coalition that the Richard Allen School was officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places June 20.
This action was taken by the United States Department of the Interior in response to the State of Delaware nomination of the property and the coalition’s interest in having its historic value recognized.
The National Register of Historic Places is the United States government’s official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects deemed worthy of preservation. Listing in the national register provides formal recognition of a property’s historical, architectural or archaeological significance based on a uniform set of standards that are utilized by every state.
A certificate of acknowledgement of the listing will be presented at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 8, on the historic property of the Richard Allen School, 316 S. Railroad Ave., Georgetown. All are invited to attend and celebrate.
