Rock and Roll Hall of Fame legend Felix Cavaliere scheduled to appear in Harrington Nov. 12
The Entertainment Department at Harrington Raceway and Casino announced that rock icon Felix Cavaliere and his group The Rascals are scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. at the Exhibit Hall Saturday, Nov. 12, as part of the On Stage–Harrington series lineup. Few artists can claim that they defined a generation, but this legendary singer-songwriter can proudly stand among those rare artists of the 20th century who have done just that. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriter Hall of Fame and Vocal Group Hall of Fame are just a few of the accolades for this incredible talent.
Classically trained on the piano, Cavaliere grew up idolizing such artists as Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles and Sam Cook which eventually led him to his own soulful and unmistakable sound. Upon leaving Syracuse University to form his own group called the Escorts, Cavaliere also performed as a backup musician for Joey Dee and the Starliters and later for performer Sandy Scott. It wasn't long after his start that his unique soulful sound and talent on the Hammond Organ started to garner attention from other musicians in the industry.
It was 1965 and Cavaliere found himself forming a group called the Young Rascals along with friends Dino Danelli, Eddie Brigati and Gene Cornish. That October, they caught the eye of a music producer who got them a deal with Atlantic Records and changed their name to The Rascals. February 1966 brought their first mega-hit "Good Lovin'" which reached No. 1 on the charts. This started an incredible string of hits for The Rascals including "I've Been Lonely To Long," "Groovin'" (No. 1 in 1967), "How Can I Be Sure," "A Girl Like You," "A Beautiful Morning," and "People Got To Be Free" (No. 1 in 1968). The Rascals became one of the best-selling groups of that era.
By the early '70s, The Rascals left Atlantic Records and moved to Columbia Records and to a more jazz-influenced new sound. This course proved to be an ill-fated one for The Rascals and ultimately led to the group disbanding in 1972. During the rest of the '70s following the group's breakup, Cavaliere's career thrived with several successful albums including a hit song in 1979 called "Only a Heart Sees" reaching No. 2 on the charts.
Cavaliere also collaborated with several other musicians on many albums, lending his distinct sound to other hits as well. This iconic performer known as "The King of Blue-Eyed Soul" will bring all of his hits to Harrington. Attendees will take a trip back to the late '60s and again experience Felix Cavaliere's message of peace, love and happiness through his music. Tickets are $34.
