Ronald J. Nye Sr., owned butcher shop
Ronald Joseph Nye Sr., 68, of Lewes, and formerly of Dauphin and Camp Hill, Pa., succumbed to complications related to cancer Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012. Ronald, Ron, Yogi or Butch, as he was called by family and friends, was born Dec. 21, 1943, in Shamokin, Pa., the son of the late John Joseph and Stella Bernice (Koveleski) Nye. He was the loving husband of JoAnn (Touloumes) Nye for more than 42 years.
Ronald attended St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy, and he graduated from Coal Township High School. He enjoyed playing various sports to include football, baseball and wrestling. Ronald worked as a meat cutter most of his life and had his own successful butcher shop in Harrisburg during the 1980s and early 1990s. Ronald also fell in love with the beach lifestyle, which prompted him and JoAnn to move to Delaware in 1992. In Delaware he enjoyed boating, fishing and helping raise his grandchildren, while continuing to work as a meat cutter. He would regularly return to Pennsylvania to visit family and friends as well as hunting deer. Ronald was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge.
Ron is survived by his wife; his son Ronald Jr. and wife Machelle of Shermans Dale, Pa.; his daughter Jennifer Nye; and four grandchildren, Makayla, Scott, Samuel and Brianna. Also surviving are his sisters, Lois Lark and husband Frederick of Bernardsville, N.J., and Estelle Nye of Chicago, Ill.; his very close cousin, Edward Koveleski and wife Nga of Camp Hill, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, Friday, Sept. 14, in Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 Trindle Road, Camp Hill, with the Rev. Anthony R. Dill as celebrant. Viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday in the church. Christian burial will be in the Paxtang Cemetery, Harrisburg, Pa.
