Ronald W. Benton, car hauler

 Ronald W. Benton, 63, of Millsboro, formerly of Bear, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes, after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis.

 Ron was born in Wilmington, Jan. 2, 1954, son of the late William R. Benton and Audrey (Richardson) Benton.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam.

 After his discharge from the service, Ron worked as a car hauler with Anchor Motor Freight, which eventually became Leaseway Motor Car, in Wilmington and Baltimore, Md.  He was a member of Teamsters Local 326 in New Castle.  He was also a member of American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro.

 Ron is survived by his wife of 18 years, Debra F. (Thompson) Benton; two children, Shawn (Becky) Benton and Tammy Benton (Chrissy Hurst); two stepchildren, Corbi (James) Bahel and Eric Yates; his twin brother, Raymond (Helen) Benton; a brother, Thomas Benton; a sister, Juanita (Charles) Smith; seven grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.

 A committal service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 11, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear. 

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Ron’s memory to the National MS Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
