The Delmarva Christian and Woodbridge boys’ basketball teams battled for 31 minutes, 59 seconds and were tied at 72 when a foul was called with one second left. The Raiders’ Traci Johnson hit two free throws to secure a 74-72 victory.
Royals senior Mason Bohinski scored 20 points, including six from behind the three-point arc. Malachi Light dropped in 16, including four threes. Sophomore DJ Liles put up 14 points, Kasey Bell tallied 10, Ed Higgins scored nine and Xavier Efford had three.
In a fast-paced, back-and-forth game, the Royals took a 38-27 lead into the halftime break. The second half had the Raiders garnering a 47-34 advantage.
“All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord,” said Royals coach Marc Hannah. “So this has got to be one of those things that he’s going to use for us to grow. Definitely disappointing. We put ourselves in that position. We were up by 11. Our guys are resilient. We are blessed with this group. They all have different things they do well. I’m proud. They keep sharing the basketball. They’ll bounce back.”
“We have to work harder,” said Light. “We have to box out more and try to get more inside the paint. We have to find more opportunities.”
“We believe in our whole team,” said Bohinski. “We have a deep bench. We have to lock in and stay mentally strong.”
Johnson led the Raiders with 24 points.
The Royals are 11-6 on the season.
