October 3, 2023

After three straight losses, the Delmarva Christian volleyball team bounced back Oct. 2 to garner a 25-13, 25-17, 25-13 victory over Lake Forest in Georgetown.

“It was a good day. I think we had some nice energy,” said Royals coach Mike Zampini. “It’s a completely different team this year, and we’re learning new things this season.”

The Royals went 16-3  last season and placed third in the DIAA state tournament.

Junior Taylor Lowe led the Royals with 15 kills and 10 digs.

“We had a lot of energy tonight,” said Lowe. “I think having the full squad here helped us a lot. Against Padua, we were missing a few key players, and tonight we had them back. We had Elaina [Millaway] back, and she brings us energy and confidence.”

Millaway pounded 13 kills, served thee aces and garnered 11 digs.

Senior Tobi Robinson put up 24 digs, while setter Khushi Patel had 22 assists. Layni Dukes helped on 12 points, adding three aces. Madison Jones handled business at the net with four roof blocks and four kills.

“Each person contributed to the win,“ said Jones. “We just had fun on the court today. We took our mistakes that we made against Padua and flushed them away. We didn’t dwell on the mistakes; we just played through them.”

“Our team chemistry was great today,” said Dukes. “We’ve really worked on our consistency. We showed our love for each other on the court. It was a great win.”

The Royals will put their 3-5 record on the line Thursday, Oct. 5, when they host 5-1 Tower Hill.
