Salesianum boys and Tower Hill girls took the top spots on the podium as the 2021 DIAA state champions Feb. 27-28 at the Sussex Academy Aquatic Center in Georgetown.
Finishing behind Sallies in the boys’ meet were Charter School of Wilmington, Tower Hill, Appoquinimink and Sussex Tech. Cape finished 11th overall, just ahead of Indian River and Sussex Academy.
Following Tower Hill in the girls’ meet were Ursuline, Charter School of Wilmington, Newark Charter and Padua. Caesar Rodney was the first Henlopen Conference school, in ninth place, followed by Cape in 11th and Sussex Academy in 12th.
“We were very pleased with the two weeks of practice between conferences and states,” said Cape coach Bill Geppert. “The team swam well, with several personal bests. It's always hard this time of year with spring sports getting ready to start. Our highlights include the third-place medal finish for the girls in the 200 free relay and the boys breaking their 200 medley relay time. It's always bittersweet at states for our seniors since they work so hard to get there, and for most, this will be their last swims.”
