Sarah Margaret Garrison, faithful church member
Sarah Margaret Garrison, 81, of Laurel departed this life Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. She was born in Selbyville, the daughter of the late Frank Purnell and Rosia Mae Mumford Brown.
Sarah was educated in the Worcester County Public School System and later worked toward earning her GED from Sussex Tech in Georgetown.
Sarah was a member of Calvary Pentecostal Church in Bishopville, Md., where she served faithfully for roughly 60 years. She was a mother of the church and retired as an usher after 52 years of service. Mother Garrison was a woman after God’s own heart.
Sarah worked at Allen’s Hatchery and she also cleaned homes at the beach. She loved anything involving church and the things of God. She also loved helping others and spending time with her family. Anyone that knew Mother Garrison knew that if she could lend a hand she was right there.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband James; her son Charles; and three sisters Ann, Hester and Alice.
Loving memories will be cherished by her daughter, Janet Banks (Ronzla Thomas) of Laurel; sisters, Ellen Rayne of Selbyville, Pastor Rosie Hall (Edward) of Frankford, Francis Chisum of Felton, and Delores Banks of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Tanya Mumford and Charlette Purnell of Goldsboro, N.C., and Jeremy Handy of Laurel; one great-grandson Landen Handy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Celebration of life service will be held Friday, May 8, at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 437 N. Front St., Seaford, at noon. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to service.
