Serafin Ensemble to perform in Lewes Nov. 12

November 9, 2021

Six members of the Serafin Ensemble, a group of internationally acclaimed artists devoted to energetic, collaborative chamber music, will perform at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 12, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Lewes.

The concert is one of many events in the 2021-22 season sponsored by the St. Cecilia Music Guild, which for the past six years has offered Sussex County residents a broad spectrum of musical programming including classical, gospel, jazz and contemporary works by musicians and composers. All events are free and open to the public.

The musicians for this concert will be Hal Grossman and Kate Ransom, violin; Amadi Azikiwe, viola; Jacques-Pierre Malan, cello; Gabriel Benton, harpsichord; and Augustine Mercante, countertenor.

The ensemble evolved from the former Serafin String Quartet and continues the nearly 20-year Serafin legacy of presenting exceptional performances of small-ensemble repertoire. The original string quartet served for nine years as Quartet in Residence at the University of Delaware and performed in the United Kingdom, as well as in 15 states, with its primary performance region in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Serafin Ensemble takes its name from master violin maker Sanctus Serafin, who in 1728 crafted the violin that is currently played by the ensemble’s founder, Artistic Director Kate Ransom.

Recent major renovations to St. Peter’s Church at Second and Market streets included installation of a high-definition broadcast system, so many of this season’s events will be broadcast live and remain available for later viewing.

For program availability, go to St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lewes, DE on YouTube and Facebook. Currently, masks are required for all in-person services and live performances.
