Shirley Paynter, loved the Lord

Shirley Paynter of Rehoboth Beach departed this life Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022. She was born March 10, 1947, in Northampton County, Va. Shirley was the daughter of the late Thomas and Beatrice Beckett.

Shirley Beckett Paynter met and married her husband Victor Paynter in 1969. They had been married for 47 years. He was the love of her life. Shirley was employed by Farmers Bank of Delaware for eight years in Wilmington, before moving to Rehoboth Beach with her late husband Victor Paynter.  Later in life, Shirley worked for Morning Till Night Child Care and Lewes Printing before retiring.

Shirley was baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost. She loved to read the Bible and fellowship with her church family. Shirley loved the Lord and often quoted the Bible; she reminded family and friends that forgiveness was important. She was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, Lord of Lords and King of Kings. Some of her favorite songs were: “Touch Me Lord Jesus,” “There’s a Highway to Heaven,” “Peace in the Valley,” “What a Friend,” and “Peace Be Still.”

Shirley is preceded in death by her late husband Victor Paynter, her son, stepdaughter, parents, two brothers, and four sisters.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memories, her stepson, Mansoor Al Shabazz (Lois) of New Castle; her sister, Magdalene Cox of Milton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8, at Friendship Baptist Church in Lewes
