A total of 336 runners crossed the Silver Lake bridge into Rehoboth at 7:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning. It looked like a painting of changing colors and focus groups with vanishing points from front to back.
The 41st annual Bottle & Cork 10-Miler used to be a half marathon; then a 5K was added because when push comes to shove, all ultra running obsession aside, most runners just want to get back to the post-race conviviality clinic of training techniques.
Brandon Holvier, 25, of Philadelphia was winner of the 10-miler in 57:56.7. Tim McCormick was second in 1:01.02, with masters winner Joey Andrisani third in 1:01.19.
Sarah Rusk, 41, was the first woman in 1:09.48. She was followed by Kristen Henry in 1:11.52 and Sarah Richards in 1:12.23. Denise Knickman, 54, was the masters champion in 1:14.50.
A total of 206 runners elected the 5K distance, including 90 from the University of Delaware’s club team.
Alex Horgan, 22, a former St. Andrew’s runner, blew away a following sea of runners in 15:47. Kyle Brightbill, 47, of Philly was winner of the masters race in 18:19.
The top 31 finishers in the race were male; 21 of those couldn’t get past Bill Sturmfelz at the door of the Cork without a fake ID.
Shelly Karsnitz, 37, was the overall women’s winner in 20:03. She was followed by Geneva Laur in 21:21 and CJ Williams in 21:34. Teri Welsh, 54, won the women’s masters race in 23:05.
