In recognition of National Burger Day, SmashMouth Burger is hosting an inaugural burger-eating contest Saturday, May 28.
Taking place at the SmashMouth truck located next to Big Chill Surf Cantina, the event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the burger-eating contest beginning at 12:15 p.m. There will be a DJ and local sponsors. Twenty percent of all food and drink sales during the event will be donated to the Harry K Foundation, a Rehoboth Beach-based organization that raises money to alleviate the problem of food insecurity by supporting the Food Bank of Delaware.
The grand prize for the event is $250 cash and one free burger a month for one year.
According to the SmashMouth website, the contest will be governed by rules from Major League Eating. Each contestant is provided five burgers at a time and they have 10 minutes to consume as many cheeseburgers and buns as they can.
SmashMouth, 19406 Coastal Highway in Rehoboth, will be serving its full menu, and the Surf Cantina is offering $4 domestics and other drink specials.
