January 22, 2024
Smoke damage to the McDonald’s at the intersection of Route 1 and Route 24 is under investigation after firefighters responded Jan. 21.
Firefighters from Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Milton and Indian River responded to the fast-food restaurant about 6:30 a.m. after a report of smoke inside the facility and some smoke visible from outside, officials said. Firefighters focused on the HVAC units on the roof as an area of concern. Crews initiated removal of ceiling tiles in order to access hard-to-evaluate areas and found multiple void spaces and layers of roof, officials said.
The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and origin of the incident, and more information will be posted when available.
