The 2016 Special Olympics Delaware Summer Games were held June 10-11 at the University of Delaware sports complex, where athletes from all around the state competed in track and field, bocce, aquatics, tennis, softball and powerlifting. Athletes were also treated to screenings by the Healthy Athletes program, where four major health components were screened, including Special Smiles, a dental screening; Opening Eyes, a vision screening where athletes were given glasses if needed; Fit Feet, where athletes were given podiatry screenings and were given free molded insoles if needed; and Healthy Hearing, where athletes were given free hearing screenings.
The Special Olympics Summer Games is in its 46th summer. This was the 30th anniversary of the Delaware Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Delaware.
