Stell Parker Selby remembers ancestors’ military service

As Memorial Day approaches, many families remember loved ones who have served this country.

Stell Parker Selby honors the memory of her paternal second-great-grandfather, Pvt. Theodore Parker, who was born in Lewes in 1843 and died in 1880. He was in the United States Colored Troops, Company K, 32nd Regiment, enlisting in March 1864 and discharged in August 1865. He was wounded at the Battle of Honey Hill in South Carolina prior to discharge. Parker is buried in St. George’s AME Church Cemetery on Pilottown Road in Lewes.

Parker Selby’s maternal third great-grandfather, Pvt. Simon Carmean Frame, was born in Trinity, Del., in 1833 and died in 1914 in Millsboro. Frame  was in the USCT and then transferred to Co. G, 28th Regiment, enlisting in May 1864 and discharged in October 1864. His regiment had a very difficult march from Baltimore to Potter Grove Church near Petersbury, Va., resulting in his permanent disability. He is buried at Friendship Metropolitan Church Cemetery in Millsboro.

Parker Selby said, "I have learned so much about my two Civil War veteran ancestors with the help and research performed by Dawnel White and Pam Brown. Through their help, I will be receiving the complete pension records for both of my great-grandfathers. My complete genealogy, which they researched, has been given to the Lewes Historical Society to add to their genealogy records for Lewes. I am so thankful for this research and for the Lewes Historical Society for preserving my family history to share."
