Sussex Academy to host outdoor soirée at CAMP Arrowhead Aug. 29
After the postponement of the school’s planned 20th anniversary gala last year, Sussex Academy will host Seahawk Soirée, a live, in-person fundraiser being held outdoors at the newly renovated Camp Arrowhead Pavilion from 4 to 9 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 29.
The event will be filled with food and drinks; s’mores and mingling around the firepit; outdoor games such as cornhole, bocce ball, and croquet; as well as live music and dancing with KleptoRadio, one of Washington, D.C.’s favorite party bands.
“We hope our parents, teachers, staff, and community members will join us and be some of the first ‘grown-ups’ to see this new beautiful event space at Camp Arrowhead,” said Gina Derrickson, director of development at Sussex Academy. “We are pleased to report that our current enrollment is now 1,100 students ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade. All funds raised from this event will be used for the future expansion of Sussex Academy Elementary School campus, which just completed its first very successful year, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic.”
“Camp Arrowhead is such a special place in our community,” said Jess Bain of Styled, the special event company coordinating the fundraiser. “It’s exciting to host one of the first events under the stars at their gorgeous new pavilion.”
Camp Arrowhead, an overnight/day camp and retreat center, recently completed construction on this new pavilion for events, as well as a new additional shower house for older Pioneer campers and a small addition to the office, giving an enclosed space for each of the four camp staffers who work year-round.
“In addition to the event pavilion, we are currently preparing to break ground on our new (and much-needed) dining hall this August,” said Walt LaFontaine, executive director at Camp Arrowhead. “Our capital campaign has been focused on the new dining hall and retreat center to better serve our camp family, as well as sustain camp through year-round programming.”
“We are truly looking forward to this year’s fundraiser for Sussex Academy at Camp Arrowhead,” said Derrickson. “It’s shaping up to be a wonderful event with over 24 local community sponsors and close to 200 tickets sold for the evening. We especially want to thank Schell Brothers, Ocean Atlantic Companies, Tunnell Companies, the Starboard, the Law Offices of Scott and Schuman, Styled, Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty, Lewes Building Company, Justin Elder of Cape ENT, Alex Pires with the Community Matters Foundation, and Billy Hein of Logo Motive for providing major sponsorships for the event. We would not be able to continue with our school facility improvements without all the sponsor and attendee participation during this evening.”
Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and tickets to the event are $125 per person and $200 per couple. Dress is summer casual, and this event is for adults only.
